The writings gathered here are my way of sharing who I am, an old woman looking back on a life.
About Maureen
I am a fourth generation New Zealander of mostly Irish descent, now living on the Mendocino Coast of Northern California. Whether living in New Zealand, England or California, words have been a central part of my working life. My newspaper articles have been published in the Christchurch (NZ) Press and the Guardian (UK) among others. I have had fiction, poetry and memoir pieces in Calyx and other literary journals. My poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize, has appeared in numerous journals and anthologies and has been featured in a textbook on computer graphics, a university geology course and a National Audubon Society report. My book publications are listed on the Poetry page of this website.
My career also includes twenty years as writer and editor of administrative policy and procedure documents at Stanford University and founder of a newsletter for the university’s administrative staff. I am a past executive director of the Mendocino Coast Writers Conference and have taught poetry workshops at College of the Redwoods and for the Waverley Writers poetry group in Palo Alto, CA.
